Once we recognize our need for a Savior, the next step is to believe. We must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, sent to earth to die for our sins. John 3:16, one of the most well-known verses in the Bible, beautifully states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Belief in Jesus means trusting that His sacrifice on the cross was sufficient to pay the penalty for our sins. It means accepting God's free gift of forgiveness, recognizing that we cannot earn our way to heaven. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."
